Former Australian cricketer and Bangladesh coach Stuart Law considers that Australian Test captain Tim Paine has done extraordinary things for the side and that he will step down when the right time comes.

Paine succeeded Steven Smith as captain in 2018 after the batsman was banned from international cricket for 12 months and suspended from leadership roles for two years for his role in a ball-tampering scandal.

Law believes Paine knows better when’s the right time to plan to relinquish the captaincy of the Australia Test team.

“Paine has done remarkable things for Australia. He pulled the entire squad out of a hole. He is very calm and intellectual, just what an Australian captain should be. There is a lot of conversation about his leadership right now, and Paine is nearing to the end of his career. If he thinks this is the right time to step down, he will do so. It's a team decision. But he has done a great job for the Australian team,” Law said to Cricfrenzy in Dubai.

Paine will lead the side in the five-match Ashes series which is scheduled to begin from December 8 continue till January 18.

Former captain heaped praises on Matthew Wade’s performance in the T20 World Cup and said his innings against Pakistan would be showcased in his entire career.

"It's not only Wade who couldn't perform. The entire Bangladesh team struggled to perform well. But Wade is a fighter, in my opinion. He went through both good and bad times while on the national team, coming and going. He is also aware that he is nearing the end of his career. So, an innings like this at this point in his career would be significant. I'm sure he's proud with his own performance."
