SLC to bid for three major ICC men’s events

In the following tournament cycle, which begins in 2024, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will bid for three global events, including two World Cups. Sri Lanka Cricket announced on Tuesday that it will file bids for the ICC T20 World Cup, Men's Cricket World Cup, and Champions Trophy.


"Sri Lanka Cricket, in certain events, will make a ‘joint bid’ in collaboration with an ICC Member country or countries," the statement read.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently stated that the Champions Trophy, which was last held in England in 2017, will be revived during the next FTP cycle, and India has decided to bid for it.


The T20 World Cup will be hosted every two years, according to the ICC's 2024-2031 FTP, which was unveiled earlier this month, while the 50-over event will be a 14-team affair starting in 2027.


In the T20 World Cup, the number of teams will be increased from 16 to 20.An eight-team Champions Trophy will be hosted in 2025 and 2029, while the World Test Championship Finals will be hosted in 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031.


Earlier, the BCCI had shown eagerness to host the ICC events in the next cycle, provided the tax exemption and the staging money issues were addressed.


Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) also eyeing to host the ICC Championship Trophy in 2025, while BCB similarly interested to bid for ICC Cricket World Cup and ICC World T20 but host jointly with its ACC neighboring countries.
