The T20 World Cup was planned to be held in India but could be moved to the United Arab Emirates if the country's Covid-19 condition does not change. While the Indian cricket board, BCCI, has not given up hope of hosting it in the country.

The General Manager of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Dhiraj Malhotra has stated that it is too early to comment on the situation.

“It’s too early to say what will happen. But the contingency plan is that it would go to UAE with the hosting rights staying with BCCI,” he said.

The BCCI would like to host the coveted T20 World Cup without any crowds in India, similar to how they hosted the 14th edition of the IPL amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. However, due to travel bans imposed by many countries, it could also be difficult.

This year's T20 World Cup will feature 16 teams. There are four grounds in the UAE that can host international matches, and if the need arises, that alternative will be used. Last year, the eight-team IPL was held successfully in the UAE.
