Bangladesh wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim has been criticized for his multiple mistakes in the recent New Zealand ODI series. As a result, several questions about his wicket-keeping emerged. However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Khaled Mahmud Sujon has left it up to Mushfiqur to decide whether or not to give up wicket-keeping.

Bad keeping on the New Zealand tour has drawn question on Mushfiqur's ability. In Christchurch, Bangladesh missed out on a chance to win as he dropped a catch by Jimmy Nisham. He also made a howler against New Zealand in 2019’s World Cup to run out Kane Williamson and he was highly criticized for that.

Since his debut in 2006, Mushfiqur has played in 224 matches and as a wicket-keeper he played in 210 matches and contributed to 234 dismissals. According to a stat made in 2016, Mushfiqur has a record of 86 missed chances as a keeper.

"I think everyone in the Bangladesh team plays to win. Mushfiqur is also a part of it. He also plays to win. I think Mushfiqur is the best person to decide whether he should take off keeping gloves and focus on batting. I also want him to decide as he is a very good thinker.”

The former cricketer thinks Mushfiqur should think about the team and himself as wicketkeeper-batsmen like Liton Das or Mohammad Mithun are present in the team.

“He (Mushfiq) thinks very well, he thinks about the team as well about himself. He should also think that since there are Liton-Mithun in the team whether he should hand-over wicket-keeping to one of them. It would be best if he decide it by himself. As a senior cricketer, as a former captain he has a lot of responsibilities,” He added.
