Mumbai captain Prithvi Shaw's swashbuckling 73 off 39 balls along with former skipper Aditya Tare's unbeaten hundred guided Mumbai to their fourth Vijay Hazare title win with a crushing six-wicket victory over Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

Opting to bat, UP opener Madhav Kaushik scored an unbeaten 158 to post 312/4, but his effort went in vain as Shaw set the platform for Tare to chase down the total with ease with as many as 51 balls in hand.

This is Mumbai's fourth title and the season will certainly be remembered for Prithvi Shaw as he has accumulated a whopping 827 runs, who now holds the record for highest scores in a single edition of this tournament as well. Shaw (73 off 39 balls; 10×4, 4×6) along with the other opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (29; 3×4; 1×6) gave the team a flying start by stitching 89 runs in 9.1 overs.

Shaw, who started with a cover-drive, off seamer Yash Dayal got a life on 5, after being dropped by Karan Sharma at mid-off, and later hit three fours in the second over off Aaqib Khan as well. He then smashed Dayal, scoring two fours and a six over mid-wicket and helped his side post 32/0 after three overs.

He continued his onslaught and brought up his fifty in only 30 balls but then got out off Shivam Mavi. Then Jaiswal and Tare added a 38-run stand before the opener got out. However, that didn't affect Mumbai's run-chase as Mumbai was already on the way to winning.

Later, Tare, who smashed 18 boundaries in his amazing knock, anchored the chase and found support in Shams Mulani (36), as the duo took the chase deep, as Mumbai reached 174/2 after 25 overs. Both Tare and Mulani added an 88-run stand for the third wicket. But Mulani got out in the 31st over, with Mumbai still needing 98 runs more.

However, Tare kept on going as he smashed Dayal for three boundaries in the 33rd over, even as Shivam Dube (42 off 28 balls; 6×4, 1×6) also played a cameo as well. Tare brought up his century in 91 balls with a single. Later, both Tare-Dube pair stitched another 88 runs for the fourth wicket and took the team home.

Earlier, UP opener Madhav Kaushik’s unbeaten 158 helped them put up 312 for four. he smashed 15 fours and four sixes, in his 156-ball knock and Samarth Singh (55 off 73 balls; 4×4; 3×6) stitched 122 runs for the first wicket to set the foundation as well.

Brief Scores: Uttar Pradesh 312/4 (Madhav Kaushik 158 not out, Akshdeep Nath 55; Tanush Kotian 2/54, Prashant Solanki 1/71) lost to Mumbai 315/4 (Aditya Tare 118 not out, Prithvi Shaw 73, Shivam Mavi 1/63) by six wickets.
