Former Bangladesh pace bowling coach Courtney Walsh said that the performance of the pacers in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England was not up to the scrape for which Bangladesh’s high-fancied World Cup could not reach its own course.
For this, Walsh thinks that they didn’t get enough time to prepare themselves before the extravaganza tournament.
The West Indies legend was appointed as the bowling coach of the Tigers in August 2016 for a four-year contract which ended after the conclusion of the 2019 ICC World Cup.
Former Jamaican fast bowler has always spoken highly about the potential pacers of Bangladesh during his four-year- tenure. But at the end of his working days, he realized and packed his bag but didn’t get any official statement which was why he continued to work till the 2019 World Cup.

He cites not getting enough time for preparation as the main reason for not getting proper support from pacers in the high-fancied World Cup campaign.
“I had the bag ready before the New Zealand series (January 2019). I was asked to work with the pacers during the West Indies tour of Bangladesh (November 2018). I wanted to leave before touring to New Zealand,” Courtney Walsh said.
“But no one from the cricket board talked to me about staying or not. As a result, I continued to work,” Walsh told a leading Bengali daily in an interview.
“And I think the bowlers were not given a chance to prepare themselves to do well in the World Cup,” he added.
Walsh has expressed his sorrow of not bidding proper goodbye to his Bangladesh fans and expressed that the working experience in Bangladesh was great. However, the lack of communication with the officials of the board gave him some tough times he says.
While speaking of the then captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza, Walsh addressed him as a fighter who will be the first person to admit his failure no matter what.
“The experience of working in Bangladesh was great. I’m sorry, I wasn’t able to say goodbye to the fans. The only bitter experience I had was my lack of communication with those who are at the policy-making level of the board,” he said.
“We all know that captain Mashrafe did not do well in the World Cup. He is a fighter and he will be the first person to admit that he did not do well in the World Cup,” Walsh concluded.
