Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar said on Monday that he was looking forward to impress his newly-wed wife with his first innings after marriage.

Soumya gave his wife Puja Debnath a moment to cherish as he earned the man of the match against Zimbabwe in the two-match T20 series opener making match-winning career-best unbeaten 62 runs.

Soumya skipped the recently concluded one-off Test against Zimbabwe in Mirpur and did not play in the first two ODIs of the three-match series, due to his wedding.

After the half-century, he kissed his locket that was holding the wedding ring and waved for his wife Puja(19) who hails from Tutpara in Khulna. She has cleared an ‘O’-level examination this year from an English medium school in Dhaka.

‘’No she does not understand cricket much,’’ Soumya told Cricfrenzy on his way to the dressing room after completing the post-match press conference at Mirpur on Monday.

Earlier he said that he was keen to prove his worth to his wife.

‘’I was thinking about going to the first match after the wedding. So the focus was more on that,’’ he said.

‘’I have just got married and played only one game but I can assume that the change is coming,’’ he said.
