Bangladesh A finish Top End Series with a defeat

Jishan Alam in action
Bangladesh High Performance (HP) team was the runner-up of the Top End Series trophy last year, but this time the Bangladesh ‘A’ side, playing under that banner, failed to progress beyond the league stage.

In their sixth and final group match on Friday, Nurul Hasan Sohan’s men suffered a seven-wicket defeat against the Adelaide Strikers.

The equation was straightforward: Bangladesh ‘A’ needed a big win to stay alive in the semifinal race by edging ahead on net run rate.
After winning the toss and opting to bat, they posted 175 for 4, thanks to Jishan Alam’s 38-ball 50, Afif Hossain’s unbeaten 49 off 23, and Yasir Rabbi’s quickfire 25 not out from 15 balls.

However, the chase was dominated by the Strikers’ openers, who piled up 123 runs within the first 12 overs, effectively ending Bangladesh’s hopes of qualification.
