Zimbabwe players issue ultimatum, threaten to boycott tri-series

The ongoing tension between the Zimbabwe Cricket and its players over unpaid salaries, match fees, and bonuses has elevated as the cricketers have threatened to boycott the upcoming tri-nation series should the board fail to pay the dues by June 25.
The Zimbabwe national team players are owed match fees dating back to the tour of Sri Lanka last July and have not received their salaries for the past three months as well. The players had previously warned the board to boycott the tri-nation series involving Zimbabwe, Pakistan, and Australia.
To lead their demands, the players enlisted the services of a Harare lawyer, Gerald Mlotshwa, last month. Mlotshwa had given an ultimatum to the governing body until May 16 to provide a written undertaking as to when the outstanding money would be paid.

Faisal Hasnain had stepped down as the Managing Director of ZC on April 28 and that could be a reason why nobody responded from the board's end to negotiate terms at that time.
The board is still in a $19 million debt and is expecting an ICC payout in July. On the other hand, the triangular series is also scheduled to start from July 1. So, ZC will have to carefully about their next move.
After the country’s failure to qualify for the ICC World Cup 2019, ZC had removed Graeme Cremer from captaincy and sacked head coach Heath Streak and his entire coaching stuff back in March this year.
Former Afghanistan coach Lalchand Rajput was appointed by ZC as the new head coach for the national side last month. ZC has also hired Vince van der Bijl as a consultant to restructure the country’s domestic and international cricket on June 4.
