Rasooli: A player to watch in Bangladesh-Afghanistan series

Afghanistan named an uncapped player in the 16-man squad ahead of the team’s next T20 assignment against Bangladesh. While the squad for their inaugural Test against India has new faces like Wafadar and Zahir Khan, the T20Is squad’s only player awaiting his international debut is Darwish Rasooli.
18-year-old Rasooli, whose unbeaten 76-run knock followed by another 63-run innings played against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, respectively, helped the Afghanistan U-19 team defeat both the sides in the World Cup earlier this year. The team reached the semi-final of the tournament and had sealed the third-place eventually.
Rasooli debuted in first-class cricket after the tournament and played eight matches in the Ahmad Shah Abdali First-class Trophy. There he scored 1073 runs and boasted an average of 82.53. He clubbed two double-centuries in the competition and helped his team, Amo Region, top the league table and later become the runners-up of the tournament.

Rasooli has also played four List A games and recorded a staggering batting average of 230, with a century to his name.
Alongside the likes of Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Rasooli may also give the Tigers a hard time. His batting prowess is a testament to the fact that the young lad will be the player to watch in Afghanistan’s upcoming T20 series, which is scheduled to start from June 3.
