Afridi to fill in for Morgan as World XI captain

England limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan has pulled out of the Hurricane Relief T20 between West Indies and the ICC World XI. A finger injury has ruled out the left-handed batsman, who had been set to captain the World XI. Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi will now lead the side in place of Morgan.
The England batsman picked up an injury on his right ring finger during Royal London One-Day cup match on May 27 and will be out of action for seven to ten days. He is expected to return before England’s one-off ODI against Scotland.
Previously, Bangladesh Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan deemed himself unavailable for the match citing personal reasons and India all-rounder Hardik Pandya had ruled himself out due to a viral infection.
Pandya was replaced by compatriot Mohammad Shami and Sam Billings has been added to the World XI to replace Morgan. Sam Curran and Tymal Mills have also been added to the 14-man squad. Curran is set to make his international debut ahead of the clash.

Afridi had also withdrawn from the team on May 17, but confirmed his participation again on May 19. He will make a brief return to international cricket through this match after more than two years.
The charity match is scheduled to take place at the Lord’s on Thursday (May 31). It has been organized to raise funds to rebuild and restore five major venues in the Caribbean island by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
The venues include Ronald Webster Park in Anguilla, the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua, the Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica, the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground in the British Virgin Islands and the Carib Lumber Ball Park in St. Maarten.
