Back injury rules Hazlewood out of England ODI series

Josh Hazlewood will miss Australia’s tour upcoming tours of England and Zimbabwe due to injury. He is the latest addition to the injury list which also has the likes of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins in it.

“Josh has been managing some low level bone stress in his lumbar spine for a short period,” Cricket Australia physiotherapist David Beakley reportedly said. “He had a repeat scan today and although it has not progressed to a fracture he is starting to experience some lower back pain. As such, we are taking a conservative approach and he will not travel to England for the one-day series.”

Uncapped fast-bowler Michael Neser has been named to replace the quick and will join the ODI squad that is set to fly out of Australia on Monday. Neser is now a part of the Aussie pace attack that consists of Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, and the leading wicket-taker in the IPL this year, Andrew Tye.

Australia, after losing an ODI series to England by 4-1 in their own backyard earlier this year, will now take on the same opponents in an away series. Their tour of England will have five ODIs and one-off T20I.

The limited-overs series is set to take place between June 13 and June 27. Following the tour, Australia will travel to Zimbabwe for a tri-nation series that also involves Pakistan alongside the hosts. The triangular series is scheduled to commence from July 1.

The ODI series against England will be the first 50-over assignment for Tim Paine as the new Aussie skipper and also for Justin Langer as the newly appointed head coach of the side.
