Sri Lanka cricketers to receive increased wages


According to a media release by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the country’s national team players will be receiving a 34 percent pay raise for the period of 2018/19. A good economic gain in the recently concluded financial year has inspired the decision.
The Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) is struggling to pay its contracted players and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has gone through a contract shake-up recently, which reduced the number of players contracted centrally. On the other side of the spectrum, SLC has decided to increase the match fees as well and such an initiative, just a year before the ICC World Cup, certainly is laudable.
“Since, Sri Lanka Cricket has made good financial gains during the concluded financial year, we thought it is appropriate to give a pay raise for the players, as they are making a major contribution towards the growth of Sri Lanka Cricket” said SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala.
The contracts were offered under categories of A, B, C, D, and Premier. Here are the names of the 33 players who will be at the receiving end of the increased salaries and match fees:

Category A: Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Rangana Herath, Suranga Lakmal and Dimuth Karunaratne.
Category B: Upul Tharanga, Dilruwan Perera.
Category C: Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, Dananjaya De Silva; Kusal Janith, Thisara Perera.
Category D: Akila Danajaya, Dushmantha Chameera, Asela Gunaratne, Danushka Gunatilleka, Nuwan Pradeep.
Premier category: Sadeera Samarawickrema, Roshen Silva, Lahiru Thirimanna, Lahiru Gamage, Vishwa Fernando, Lakshan Sadakan, Jeffery Vandersay, Dasun Shanaka, Kaushal Silva, Shehan Madushanka, Lahiru Kumara, Malintha Pushpakumara, Amila Aponso, Wanidu Hasaranga, Isuru Udana, Dilshan Munaweera.
