DD vs CSK: opportunity for CSK, formality for Delhi

promotional_ad

There’s nothing left in the tournament for Delhi Daredevils, who have already won the wooden spoon in IPL 2018. Their guaranteed last-place finish will not be affected by the result in the upcoming match between the Delhi-based franchise and the Chennai Super Kings.

The two teams will lock horns at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Friday (May 18), where a win for CSK would ensure a spot in the top-two for the Dhoni-led men.

With one of the most balanced sides in the tournament, DD have been able to pick up only three wins in 12 games. CSK, on the other hand, won five of their first six clashes and are going through a fairly bad phase as they have lost half of their last six matches.

Despite having the best batting line-ups, these two teams are on the opposite side of the spectrum and DD still have the opportunity to finish their miserable run with something positive if they can put an end to their three-match losing streak tonight or prevent Mumbai Indians from qualifying for the playoffs in their next game.

DD have some of the best youngsters of the tournament in their squad and the likes of Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant were the ones who fought to keep DD’s season hopes alive. However, poor bowling cost them their chances in the competition.

Another youngster Abhishek Sharma also offered a glimpse of his batting proficiency in the last game against RCB. Sandeep Lamichhane was also impressive with the ball and DD must be regretting the decision of not using these two before.

Liam Plunkett is likely to return to the side after Junior Dala’s unimpressive debut. A few more new faces could be seen if DD decide to make further changes.

Predicted XI: Amit Mishra, Jason Roy, Trent Boult, Harshal Patel, Vijay Shankar, Shreyas Iyer (c), Liam Plunkett, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sandeep Lamichhane, Abhishek Sharma, Prithvi Shaw

Chennai Super Kings

A century from Ambati Rayudu and a 137-run opening partnership in their last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad only boosted CSK’s confidence. They are expected to field the same eleven from their last match, which kept the Super Kings unbeaten against the table-toppers.

Predicted XI: Harbhajan Singh, Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Ambati Rayudu, David Willey, Deepak Chahar, Sam Billings, Shardul Thakur

Prediction

The last match between the two had seen a run-galore with CSK scoring over 200 runs and DD reaching near 200. This match is also likely to witness the same and CSK are once again the favorites here.
