‘Rishabh Pant resembles Yuvraj Singh’

After a fine batting display against Royal Challenger Bangalore which was overshadowed by AB de Villiers’ blistering knock that decided the match, Rishabh Pant has once again drawn comparison with Yuvraj Singh.

The wicketkeeper-batsman plundered seven maximums in a 48-ball innings of 85 runs on Saturday. His brilliance has made him an available option with the gloves for India, once MS Dhoni hangs up his boots.

During the previous edition of IPL, the great Sachin Tendulkar said Pant's noticeable bat swing reminded him of Yuvraj.

“He is a special talent,” said Sachin. “To me, he looks like a combination of Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina - the set up and the bat swing. (He is) wonderful to watch.”

Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman—Mandeep Singh also lauded the 20-year-old sensation. He echoed the little master’s words and said Pant’s six-hitting ability resembles that of Yuvi's.

“Rishabh is amazing,” said Mandeep. “When we were growing up, we used to talk about Yuvraj Singh. Yuvi used to hit those big sixes more than anyone else. I think, in this generation, Rishabh is one name who can smack sixes like him at will. He has immense ability.”

Rishabh has a staggering average of more than 53.62 in first-class cricket. He is also the fourth-youngest triple century-maker in first-class history. The batting prodigy scored 308 (from just 326 balls) in a first-class match in 2016.

The southpaw also has an impressive strike rate of 163 in T20s including a 32-ball century which made him the fastest centurion in the country earlier this year.

Yuvraj Singh has accumulated nearly 12,000 runs for India across all formats and has 17 international centuries to his name. He was pivotal in India’s ICC World T20 triumph in 2007 where he smashed six sixes off an over in a match against England.

The all-rounder also got the Man of the Series award when India won the ICC World Cup in 2011. Being compared with such a brilliant cricketer ought to be special for Pant who has played four T20Is for the Men in Blue thus far.
