SRH's batting fails to see them through yet again

Hapless Sunrisers Hyderabad once again crumbled when the situation demanded for their batsmen to turn up. A poor start against a clinical bowling line-up cost them the math in the absence of their most prolific batsman—Shikhar Dhawan.

Winning the toss, SRH opted to bowl first. Things were going their way as the men led by Kane Williamson did not let the run rate go over five when they sent two of the CSK batsmen back to the hut.

CSK’s miserable start was followed by a great 57-ball stand of 112 runs stitched by Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu. The latter fell victim to a run out after scoring 79 runs from 37 balls.

MS Dhoni then showcased a cameo innings by clubbing 25 runs off 12 deliveries. Raina remained not out on 53 as CSK registered a score of 182 runs, losing three of their wickets.

Rahsid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up one wicket each with the former being the most expensive bowler for a second successive time. The Afghan allowed 49 runs in 4 overs as CSK posed a daunting total.

In reply, SRH were three down for 22 after Manish Pandey and Ricky Bhui returned to the pavilion for a duck and Deepak Hooda registered a single before getting dismissed. All three wickets were picked up by Deepak Chahar while Kane Williamson was trying to salvage some pride for the home team at the other end.

Following the exits, Shakib Al Hasan and the SRH skipper partnered together to restore their innings. However, Shakib left the crease scoring 24 runs as he got out, facing Karn Sharma.

Williamson was still at the crease, trying to prevent further wicket-loss. However, he then got accompanied by Yusuf Pathan who launched an assault plundering 4 sixes and a boundary.

Dwayne Bravo scalped the Kiwi batsman on 81 runs, putting an end to a 79-run partnership. AIn the enxt over, Pathan also got dismissed by Shardul Thakur before Rashid Khan tried to take the team home by smashing 17 off 4.

CSK managed a 4-run victory over Hyderabad and earned the top spot in the points table. Had the three unfortunate trio of SRH contributed a couple of runs to the total, the result could have been different.

Score:

CSK 182/3 (20 Overs)

SRH 178/6 (20 Overs)

Chennai Super Kings won by 4 runs
