Shane Watson: Most impactful IPL player
Shane Watson has become an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing season of the IPL. The former Australia player has been proving his worth in every single match by showcasing his all-round proficiency.
He clubbed his maiden century and the only second century of this season during their match against Rajasthan Royals. The Australian’s innings of 106 runs from 57 balls set the stage for a 64-run victory for the Chennai-based franchise in that game.
Following the game, ‘Impact Index’ calculated by MONEYBALL, a venture of Inside Sport, adjudged Watson as the most impactful batsman in IPL 2018. He has overcame the likes of Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle to claim the top spot.
The index read, “Watson has rushed to the top spot, riding his 106 against his former franchisees Rajasthan Royals on Friday. With 175 runs during the season and six wickets, he has accumulated 235 points to top the IPL 2018 IMPACT INDEX for the season. Followed by Kolkata Knight Riders Nitish Rana (208 IMPACT INDEX) and the great Virat Kolhi (207).”
“It takes into account every run scored, every wicket or catch taken. Even stumping, run-out by the players are taken into account.
“Players earn 1 point for each run scored; 10 points for each wicket taken, 3 points each for a catch, stumping and run-out made,” it added.
Watson has scored 175 runs in 4 matches at a strike rate of 176.77. He also has 6 wickets to his name in the tournament until now. His team has registered three victories in four matches and is at the second position in the points table so far.
