North Zone face disgraceful defeat, South Zone fight back

An innings that was looking like a possible run-galore for East Zone at the end of day-2, turned into a nightmare for the team as North Zone were quick to act in order to strangle the opponents.

What comes as a shock is that East Zone's batting line-up failed to capitalize on a 110-run opening partnership from the previous day and crumbled like a used tissue paper against a clinical bowling attack from North Zone. The team led by Mominul Haque lost 20 wickets on the third day to put an icing on their cake of failure.

After adding 12 more runs to the hundred-plus opening partnership on day-3, Tasmanul Haque was the first batsman to leave the ground scoring 56 runs. After contributing 21 runs to the total East Zone skipper Mominul Haque too returned to the pavilion.

Following his departure, it was another opener Liton’s turn to give his wicket away after clubbing 69 runs. East Zone then ended up totaling 217 runs losing all their wickets as the rest of the batsmen failed to even get past 20 runs.

Their puny total was not enough to avoid a follow-on against North Zone’s score of 415 runs; hence, East Zone started batting again and failed to stand firm against the opponents yet again on the same day.

This time they got all-out at 170 runs with little help from a 69-run eighth wicket stand stitched by Sohag Gazi and Mohammad Saifuddin. Gazi made 50 runs and Saifuddin scored 32 while the rest failed miserably to make their mark.

Shoriful Islam and Yeasin Arafat were the key bowlers to North Zone’s success as they scalped 7 wickets each in the match. Shafiul Islam also bagged 4 wickets, while Taijul Islam picked one wicket in each of the innings.

The other match did not see so many turn of events happening this quick. After scoring 191 in the 1st innings, which was followed by a 302-run total from Central Zone, South Zone have accumulated another 348 runs losing 6 wickets before the umpires called a halt on day-3.

South Zone are now leading by 237 runs, thanks to a magnificent century from Mohammad Mithun. Tushar Imran also made 88 runs to make his mark after a disappointing first innings score.

Mosharraf Hossain took 3 scalps in this innings by dismissing Anamul Haque on 45 runs along with the two aforementioned batsmen. Ebadat Hossain and Tanbir Hayder also took one wicket apiece on Thursday with the latter reaching the tally of 2 wickets in this innings.
