Fawad dismisses rumors of involvement in match-fixing

Fawad Alam has missed out on Pakistan’s Test squad ahead of series against Ireland, and England. Pakistan chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq named the squad on Sunday which had five uncapped players in it, including the selector’s nephew Imam-ul-Haq who scored a century on his ODI debut.
Fawad, despite having a great run in the domestic circuit, was left out of the squad as the Inzamam wants to prepare the young players for the upcoming ICC World Cup which is scheduled to take place in England and Wales next year.
There were speculations regarding Fawad’s involvement in match-fixing, something explained as a reason behind his non-selection. However, the left-handed batsman has dismissed the rumors about this and said that he wouldn’t be allowed to play domestic cricket if that really was the case.

“I think I don’t need to explain myself, as I have done nothing wrong. My entire cricket career has been clean, committing fixing is one thing I cannot even think about it. If there were such issues, I would not have been playing in the domestic circuit like a lot of players who are out of domestic cricket as well,” Alam told local media.
The 32-year-old also did not feature in Pakistan Super League [PSL] which fueled the rumors about him. Ruling him out of the squad has raised questions among the followers of the country’s cricket.
After the squad was announced, Fawad tweeted that he would be “cheering for Pakistan from home”. He has said that he will try his best to make a return to the national team although he doesn’t know why he wasn’t picked.
“Being hopeless is a sin,” Fawad reportedly said. “I’ll do what I know best. I’ll work hard, try my best, practice more, and play whatever domestic cricket comes my way. My cricket doesn’t end here if I wasn’t named in the squad.
“As far as selection is concerned, the national selection committee can answer why I wasn’t picked. As a player I am leaving no stones unturned.”
