Royal Challengers Bangalore have been defeated by Rajasthan Royals in their own backyard. The men led by Virat Kohli have had a nightmare at Bengaluru on Sunday.

Winning the toss, RCB decided to bat first. RR lost both their openers on 52 runs but the storm was yet to hit the Bangalore-based franchise. Opener D’Arcy Short made 11 runs while RR skipper—Ajinkya Rahane scored 36.

Sanjur Samson came in to bat and played a blistering 92-run innings from just 45 deliveries, that too, by remaining not out till the end. With Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler scoring 20-odd runs in the middle, Rahul Tripathy also remained unbeaten after playing a 5-ball cameo to add 14 runs to the total.

Umesh Yadav, who had a brilliant game at the same venue against Punjab, was smashed for 59 runs in 4 overs while remaining wicketless as well. Yuzvendra Chahal was exceptional as he scalped 2 wickets with confining the economy rate to less than six. The rest of the bowling line-up had a miserable game.

Chris Woakes also took 2 wickets but failed to prevent Rajasthan from going past 200 runs. RR registered a total of 217 runs for 4 wickets.

In response, RCB lost an early wicket of Brendon McCullum but captain Kohli restored their innings by stitching a 77-run stand with Quinton de Kock. Kohli clubbed a half-century and contributed 57 runs to the total before returning to the pavilion.

De Kock scored 26 runs while compatriot AB de Villiers made 20 runs. Mandeep Singh and Washington Sundar scored 47 and 35 runs, respectively, in an attempt to make things go their way. Mandeep remained unbeaten until the end as RCB lost the match by 19 runs.

Short, Ben Laughlin, Ben Stokes, and Krishnappa Gowtham took a wicket apiece for RR while Shreyas Gopal bagged 2 wickets.
