South Zone and East Zone locked horns in the Bangladesh Cricket League [BCL] which has resumed after two and a half months on Tuesday at Sylhet. Another match on the same day saw Central Zone and North Zone face-off each other at Bogra.

All four teams are playing their fourth match in the league. Central Zone had won their previous fixture against North Zone and the three other teams have failed to manage a single win until now.

On the first day of the 4-day game, Central Zone batted first and registered 249 runs for 3 wickets until the umpires called a halt.

A 200-run opening partnership was broken by Shoriful Islam when he removed Shadman Islam on 107 runs. The same bowler later removed the other opener—Saif Hasan after Sunzamul Islam sent Raqibul Hasan back to the hut.

Saif was just 6 runs short of his century when he got dismissed and Raqibul got out for a duck. Central Zone skipper Mahmudullah will resume the next day’s play along with Marshall Ayub. Both are not out on 20-odd runs.

The other match also witnessed a century from South Zone batsman Tushar Imran who stopped at 130 runs when Abu Jayed picked up his wicket. He shared a 165-run partnership with Fazle Mahmud. They restored their side’s innings after both openers returned to the pavilion early.

Fazle clubbed 89 runs before Sohag Gazi dismissed him. The rest of the batsmen could not make their mark as Khaled Mahmud and Mohammad Saifuddin bagged 2 wickets each.

Delwar Hossain and South Zone captain Nurul Hasan remained unbeaten before the umpire called stumps. South Zone are 7 wickets down already and will look forward to adding more runs to their total of 299.
