BCB set to revise domestic cricketers' suspensions

Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] had punished two clubs along with its players, coaches, and managers for “tarnishing the image of Bangladesh cricket” in their roles in two controversial lower-tier league matches held in April 2017. The penalized submitted multiple letters to BCB requesting the opportunity to resume their career over the last twelve months.

The teams, Fear Fighters, and Lalmatia had been scratched from playing any division of the Dhaka League while two players from the teams—Tasnim Hasan and Sujon Mahmud, were handed a 10-year ban.

Fear Fighters' Tasnim had voluntarily conceded 69 runs in 1.1 overs against Indira Road Krira Chakra in protest of alleged biased umpiring. Lalmatia bowler Sujon conceded 92 runs off four balls while playing against Axiom Cricketers on the following day.

During both games, umpires Shamsur Rahman and Azizul Bari allegedly prevented the two captains of both sides from seeing who actually won the toss in their respective matches. They were also said to have bullied players from these clubs during the games alongside giving a number of questionable decisions.

Both the umpires had received a six-month suspension each for their inability to handle the matches properly. On the other hand, the captains, Faisal Ahmed and Tonumoy Ghosh, had been banned for five years along with Lalmatia coach Asadullah Khan and manager Adnan Rahman.

The decision regarding the suspensions was given within just 10 days of the incident and the committee who made the decisions were said to be lenient on the umpires. However, BCB director and media committee chairman has confirmed that a review of the decision will be taking place soon.

“We have received appeals from some of the players and clubs,” Yunus said. “I think Lalmatia have put in a request recently too, and one of the captains has also submitted a letter. We are going to sit for a review soon.”
