Agrani Bank Cricket Club and Brothers Union faced each other in the last match of Dhaka Premier League on Wednesday to determine the only second team after Kalabagan Krira Chakra to fall victim to relegation.

As Agrani Bank batted first, Soumya Sarkar’s magnificent innings of 154 runs powered them to post a total of 334 runs on the scoreboard. Rishi Dhawan’s unbeaten 80-run knock also played an important part for the side that lost all of its wickets with 5 balls remaining.

Soumya registered the highest individual innings in the tournament this season by surpassing Nazmul Hossain’s unbeaten knock of 150 runs for Abahani Limited. Soumya’s innings was laced with 9 boundaries and 11 over-boundaries which also made him the batsman with most runs from fours and sixes in an innings as he went past Pappu’s 96 for Shinepukur.

Together, Rishi and Soumya stitched a 171-run partnership to lift the score past 300 runs. But following Soumya’s departure, Jahid Javed got out on 9 runs and that initiated a collapse in Agrani’s batting lineup as they lost four more wickets while scoring 7 runs only. Especially, all four of the tailenders ended up with a duck.

Myshukur Rahaman and Iftekhar Sajjad bagged the wickets of the opening batsmen, and Sohrawardi Shuvo and Shakhawat Hossain scalped 3 wickets each.

In response, the top-order of the Brothers Union batting lineup came up with some brilliant performances which set the stage for a splendid victory for the team.

A 121-run opening partnership between Mizanur Rahman and Junaid Siddique was followed up by two more crucial stands which took the score to 286/3. Mizanur made 62 runs while Junaid and Myshukur got 80-odd runs to their names.

Debabrata Das added 73 runs to the total and was steering the team to a victory but got dismissed by Rishi in the second ball of the final over. However, Nazmus Sadat picked up a win for his team with a boundary off the last ball as four runs were required from it.

Abdur Razzak, Shafiul Islam, and Islamul Ahsan got a wicket each for Agrani Bank. Rishi took 3 scalps to complete his all-round performance in the match but failed to prevent a 4-wicket defeat for his team.

Score:

Agrani Bank Cricket Club – 334/10 (49.1 overs)

Brothers Union - 335/6 (50 overs)

Brothers won by 4 wickets
