Nafees Iqbal joins Mumbai Indians

It had appeared as somewhat of a problem when Mustafizur Rahman was playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. The fast bowler's inability to speak in any language other than his mother tongue—Bengali had created difficulties for other members and officials of the team to communicate with the prodigious paceman.

The Hyderabad-based franchise had later hired an interpreter for “Fizz” to make his stint with the team a rather pleasant one. The 22-year-old went on to take 17 scalps in the tournament to help his team lift the trophy. He was also named the emerging player in the competition.

This year, Mustafiz has been roped in by Mumbai Indians and his side has been mindful of the fact that linguistic problems might interrupt the player’s comfort zone. Hence, they have recruited a new official who will work as a translator.

As per Mahela Jayawardene’s suggestion, Mumbai has hired Bangladesh batsman Nafees Iqbal to get rid of the language barrier. Both Mahela and Nafees have previously worked together in the Bangladesh Premier League [BPL] when the latter was the team manager of Khulna Titans and the former coached the side.

Although Nafees’ brother, another Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal won’t be featuring in the lucrative league, the 33-year-old will be serving Mumbai Indians as an interpreter.
