West Indies' abject brush with disgraceful records

The battle between the current World T20 champions and the team ranked no. 1 in the T20I rankings was surely expected to offer many thrills to the fans of cricket. However, the face-off between Pakistan and West Indies produced the “unexpected” and ended up being a one-sided clash.

As Karachi welcomed international cricket after nine years, the West Indian team plummeted to 60 runs against Pakistan’s mammoth total of 203.

Pakistan registered the biggest win in T20Is between two Test-playing nations as it surpassed New Zealand’s 119-run win against West Indies in January this year.

West Indies also created a record of their own by equaling New Zealand’s tally of 60 runs against Sri Lanka, the lowest score by any Test playing nation in T20Is. Before the game on Sunday, the Windies team never lost 10 wickets below 100 runs in T20Is.

As both teams went on to the ground to play in the opener of a three-T20I series, West Indies opted to bowl first following their toss-win. And all Pakistan needed was just four 30+ innings to lift the total past 200.

Fakhar Zaman, Sarafraz Ahmed, and Shoaib Malik contributed thirty-odd runs with debutant Hussain Talat’s 41 run innings being the highest individual knock in the game. Malik’s cameo of 37 off 14 was also a nail in West Indies’ coffin as their poor bowling failed to send the batsman back to the pavilion.

Pakistan proved that team effort is more crucial than individual landmarks to succeed in this format, which the Caribbean team clearly couldn’t exhibit.

Keemo Paul, Rayad Emrit, and Rovman Powell bagged a wicket each while their opponents fell victims to two run-outs as well.

On the other hand, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Nawaz crashed the top-order of West Indies by scalping two wickets each. Shoaib Malik also took two scalps as Hasan Ali, Shadab Khan, and Hussain Talat picked up one wicket apiece.

Only three of the West Indian batsmen reached the double-digits score to provide a “perfect” end to their miserable display in both departments. Hussain Talat achieved the rare feat of getting the Man of the Match award in the maiden international match.
