Chris Gayle hints at retirement from international cricket

West Indies batsman Chris Gayle has hinted at retirement after the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. After defeating Ireland in the World Cup qualifiers, the southpaw revealed that the next World Cup will be his last one.
“I am so happy to have qualified for another World Cup. I just have to stay fit now and we have a young team, but it will be my last World Cup that is for sure, so I am looking forward to it,” said Gayle.
The destructive batsman has not been in his best form in the qualifiers and has amassed a total of 155 runs in 5 matches which includes a 123-run knock against the United Arab Emirates.

“I need a couple [of] months to get properly fit and especially I love playing in England and Wales. Lots of the Windies fans over the world are sad that we are in this position, where we have to play the qualifiers. But, cricket is like life, you have ups and downs, and nothing is guaranteed in life,” Gayle said about the upcoming World Cup.
Chris Gayle has over 18000 international runs along with 40 centuries to his name. He is the only player to have scored a century in T20Is, a double-century in ODIs and a triple-century in Tests.
Following West Indies’ victory over Ireland, he said, “Mission accomplished, definitely. It has been a long journey and the process we have gone through to qualify, we still have to give thanks even though it was a rain-interrupted game today, but a win is a win.”
Afghanistan have also qualified for the 2019 World Cup and will play in the final match of the qualifiers. After playing against Afghanistan in the final match, Chris Gayle will be soon heading to India to play for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL.
