New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson has been roped in by IPL side Royal Challengers Bangalore [RCB]. He will replace Australia quick Nathan Coulter-Nile for the Bangalore-based franchise.

RCB were allowed to choose a replacement from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP) according to the Player Regulations. They picked Anderson for his base price of INR 2 Cr.

RCB head coach Daniel Vettori lamented Nathan’s absence and confirmed the inclusion of the Kiwi all-rounder through a media release on Saturday.

He stated, "Nathan Coulter-Nile is still recovering from a sustained injury and has been prescribed ample rest. He is a player of tremendous talent and owing to his treatment, however, he won't be able to play during IPL season 11. His absence will be felt greatly both in the team and on the ground. Team RCB wishes Nathan a heartfelt speedy recovery and an early comeback.”

“Replacing him in the squad is the explosive Kiwi all-rounder Corey Anderson. Corey plays a bold game and has incredible potential. We all welcome him to the RCB squad," Vettori added.

Coulter-Nile had a brilliant stint with Kolkata Knight Riders [KKR] last year as he bagged 15 wickets in 8 matches. He was picked by RCB for Rs 2.2 crore and has been ruled out of the competition this year due to an injury.

Anderson, on the other hand, is also recovering from a stress fracture of his lower back. He last featured in New Zealand’s T20I side in February 2017. The 27-year-old went unsold at the IPL auction this year and has played only one competitive game since July 2017.

Corey Anderson will join his former Black Caps captain Brendon McCullum, Tim Southee and Colin de Grandhomme as the Kiwi contingent at the Royal Challengers. With the likes of England's Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes, and New Zealand's Colin de Grandhomme already in their roster, RCB will have great all-round options lined up for the tournament.

RCB will start their campaign with an away game against KKR on April 8.
