Kiwi skipper breaks 24-year-old record

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson set a new record on day two of the first Test against England at Eden Park. With his century on Friday, the right-handed batsman surpassed Martin Crowe to become the leading century-maker for the Black Caps.
Williamson now has 18 Test hundreds to his name, taking him past Ross Taylor and Martin Crowe who scored 17 Test hundreds each. The mantle of New Zealand’s highest century-maker now may go back and forth between Taylor and Williamson as the former equalled Crowe’s 24-year-old record against West Indies last year.
The Kiwi captain couldn't get to the three-figure knock by stumps on day-1, but at 175/3, a lead of 117 runs already, he put his team in pole position. However, he completed his century on the rain-marred second day and got out on 102 runs as James Anderson trapped him lbw.

The hosts are now have a 171-run lead as they stand at 229 for 4 wickets.
New Zealand pacers, Trent Boult and Tim Southee, also got their hands on a 24-year-old feat on Thursday by scalping all ten wickets in their opening spells. In 1994, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis became the first pair to have achieved such feat.
Boult bagged 6 wickets while Southee took 4 scalps as England got restricted to 58 runs, their third lowest 1st innings total. New Zealand are now well ahead in this match and England will have to put a lot of efforts to turn things around.
