Bangladesh and India faced against each other in the final match of the Nidahas Trophy. India qualified for the final after winning three of their four games in the group round. Bangladesh, on the other hand, stormed into the final by winning both of their matches against the hosts, Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh faced India in seven T20Is including two clashes in this tournament and had not been able to manage a single win against the Men in Blue before this contest. Their defeats against India include an Asia Cup final and an awful one-run loss in the ICC World T20 in 2016.

Jaydev Unadkat has replaced Mohammad Siraj for India. On the other hand, Bangladesh have named the same playing XI from their last match. India decided to bowl first at the R.Premadasa Stadium.

Bangladesh started in a fine manner as both openers were rotating the strike and hitting the appropriate deliveries. However, it didn't take Washington Sundar long to give India a breakthrough. Liton Das was the first batsman to leave the crease scoring 11 runs after he was caught out by Suresh Raina.

Following his exit, Tamim Iqbal got out on 15 he tried to hit Chahal for a maximum but Shardul Thakur took an amazing catch at the boundary to dismiss him. The next man, Soumya also could not manage to stay at the crease for long enough as Chahal again bagged a wicket.

Mushfiq and Sabbir then kept the score ticking after the early blow but Chahal sent Mushfiq back to the hut on 9 runs.

Mahmudullah completed his 1000 T20I runs by adding 4 runs to the total. However, he got dismissed on 21 after falling victim to a runout. Sabbir took off for a run from the non-striking end even though Mahmudullah did not call for it.

Shakib was also run out scoring 7 runs. Sabbir's magnificent innings of 77 runs came to an end as Jaydev Unadkat bowled him out by uprooting the stump. The same over also saw Rubel Hossain getting out for a duck.

However, Mehidy produced a good finish for the Tigers with his cameo of 19 from 7 deliveries.

Coming on to chase the target India displayed aggression in the beginning but dealt two early blows as Shakib dismissed Dhawan on 7 and Suresh Raina got out by Rubel for a duck. Rubel scalped the next wicket too by dismissing Lokesh Rahul on 24.

Meanwhile, Rohit picked up a half-century but returned to the pavilion on 56 as Nazmul Islam dismissed him.

Manish Pandey got out by Mustafizur after scoring 28 runs. Vijay Shankar got dismissed by Soumya on 17 runs. Then Dinesh Karthik repeated what Mahmudullah had done in the previous match, but this time, 5 runs were required off the last ball when he smashed a flat six.

Bangladesh tried hard to win the game but an expensive 19th over from Rubel, who had bowled 3 brilliant overs previously, turned things around. Moreover, it was Karthik’s innings of 28 off 9 deliveries that sealed the match for India. He amassed 22 runs from the second-last over.
