‘The more we play, the better we will become’ - Mushfiq

Mushfiqur Rahim is a name revered by almost everyone in
Bangladesh. The wicketkeeper is perhaps the most hardworking player in the
team. The way he has improved over the years is due to the diligence that he
displays in the training sessions.
In Tests and ODIs, Mushfiqur has improved a lot. He has,
however, failed to replicate similar growth in T20Is. Indeed, he averages just
18.06 in 55 innings, where he has scored only 813 runs. But that hasn’t stopped
him from believing that technically sound batsmen could do well in the format.
“Everyone thinks that T20 cricket is for the well-built
batsman who has the power to clear the ropes,” Mushfiqur was quoted saying
after the practice game in Colombo by The Daily Star.

He believes that batting is based on good technique and
muscle strength alone can’t make a player a good batsman.
“It's all about technique, whichever format you play, and
it's important to read the bowler early and adjust your foot movement. Yes, if
you have enough power it can only be your extra strength but one just can't go
and hit every ball only because you have the muscle,” he said.
The former Test captain of Bangladesh then opined that the
team will only get better if they play more games in the format.
“T20 is a fast-paced game where the bowlers will come up with something different in every delivery and as a batsman you need to adjust to the pitch very early. We haven't played T20s on a regular basis and the more we play this game, the more we will be able to cope up with it as we did in the fifty-over format,” Mushfiqur said.
Bangladesh will take on against India on the 8th of March.
