Comilla bow out of BPL under dubious circumstances

Hello and welcome to the live update section of the second eliminator. The match between Rangpur and Comilla has commenced under the overcast clouds as Chris Gayle and Johnson Charles took the pitch after Tamim Iqbal won the toss and decided to bowl first.

As everyone was expecting Chris Gayle to repeat what he did in the last game, misfortune struck him as a throw on the stumps resulted in the ball hitting the sole of his feet and subsequently twisting it in the process. After this, he couldn't really run and finally fell for 3 after facing 10 balls.

Meanwhile, Johnson Charles was on fire with 46 runs from 26 balls while McCullum was batting at 4 from 6 balls. However, the unwelcome, but expected, guest named rain poured down and has stopped play for now.

After rain washed out play yesterday, the officials decided that the match will commence from where it stopped last night. So now, the Rangpur Riders are back from where they left off with Baz McCullum batting alongside Johnson Charles!

The duo took the match by storm as McCullum's bat fired 78 from 46 and Johnson Charles became the second player in this year's BPL to score a century. He and McCullum formed a partnership of 151 runs as Johnson scored 105 from 63 balls.

In response, Comilla Victorians made a good start with Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal taking on the bowlers. Rangpur Riders, however, spilled a lot of chances on the floor coupled with the fact that they were unlucky at some points.

Tamim Iqbal was caught right in front of the stump, but the umpire adjudged him as not out. Two easy run-outs chances were also made a mess of while an easy catch of Liton Das was dropped by Nahidul Islam.

But, finally, things began to click as Tamim Iqbal miscued a shot off Mashrafe Mortaza's bowling. Sohag Gazi didn't make the same mistake as Nahidul did and held on to it as Tamim went back to the pavilion for 36 from 19 balls.

Imrul Kayes and departed for a duck as he got stumped in the very second ball that he faced. Liton Das and Shoaib Malik were out there together trying to create a platform to launch the slog, but one gets the feeling that they are batting too slow.

And then Malik got out after trying to hit a six and getting caught near the boundary in the process. Liton Das soon followed after a decently paced 39 of 28 balls.

After that, the onus was on the English-West Indian duo of Ravi Bopara and Marlon Samuels to take their team home. While Jos Buttler was getting bat on ball, Marlon Samuels looked very uncomfortable in the middle. It was as though getting the bat on the ball was a Herculean task for the big West Indian - and he just couldn't do it.

Jos Buttler, despite looking like a man in form, was the next to go as he was caught on the boundary by Nazmul Islam while batting on 26 from 16 balls. Marlon Samuels changed his bat, but it didn't change his fortune as he soon followed, making 27 from 30 balls before getting out on Bopara's bowling.

The rest of the team soon followed as they were bundled out for 156 as Tamim Iqbal's Comilla bowed out of the tournament after playing so well and under dubious situation.

Comilla Victorians: 156-all out after 20 overs.

Rangpur Riders: 192-3 after 20 overs.
