Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah’s grandfather, Santok Singh Bumrah, aged 84, was found dead by Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) after his body was discovered and pulled out of Sabarmati River on Sunday.

Reports say that Santok was in Ahmedabad to meet the pacer of Team India. His family filed a missing report on Friday afternoon to the Vastrapur police, but the pacer’s family allegedly refused any recent contact between Jasprit and his grandfather. 

As it was quoted by the Ahmedabad Mirror: "He expressed a wish to meet his grandson on his birthday on December 5. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to meet Jasprit. On December 8, Santokh called his son Balvinder Singh, who lives in Jharkhand, and told him that he was leaving to meet his deceased wife."

Another source reported that Santok turned up at his daughter's residence at Vastrapur on December 1 and experienced a great deal of indifference by the family.

"When we went to meet Jasprit's mother Daljit Kaur at a city school where she is a teacher, she refused to allow my father any contact with Jasprit. She even refused to share her son's phone number so that father could talk to him. My father was grief-stricken by this. He left home on Friday afternoon and never returned," Rajinder said.

Santok owned three factories in the 80’s and 90’s while being assisted in his business by Jasprit’s father, Jasbir. After his son’s death he sold all of his factories and moved to Uttarakhand from Ahmedabad, where he started earning his livelihood by driving a tempo.

Watching his grandson enjoy a glorious period in the Indian National team, Santok expressed his wish to meet his grandson after 17 years.
