Former Pakistan pacer, Waqar Younis, has revealed that he has both pleasant and unpleasant memories of Bangladesh. The legendary Pakistani fast bowler, who coaches Sylhet Sixers in the Bangladesh Premier League, stated that the city of Dhaka is “excellent” and that he has had good times in the other cities as well.

Speaking to Manob Jabin, he said: “I have good and bad memories in Bangladesh. I have good memories of playing here too.

“I have great memories in Dhaka. Dhaka is an excellent city for me.

“Apart from here, I have spent good times in Sylhet, Khulna and Chittagong too. I love this country because the people here are so friendly.

"Bangladesh is like my home after Pakistan. I have so many good memories that I don’t want to mention any particular memory.

However, the Pakistani also admitted that he has some horrible memories of the nation due to the fact that Pakistan got ‘Banglawashed’ here in 2015 by the hands of a young and energetic Bangladesh side led by Mashrafe Mortaza.

“I have some bad memories here as well. Pakistan have been whitewashed here by Bangladesh. On that time, I was Pakistan’s head coach. So it’s a very painful memory.”

He, however, also admitted that Bangladesh were completely deserving of winning the series: “In short, Bangladesh played excellent cricket in that time. They played better cricket than us as a team. I hope that Bangladesh will progress more day by day.”

Earlier this month, there were reports of the former Pakistan coach being one of the people in the shortlist to be the next Bangladesh coach. When asked if he would be interested in the role, he said that he “doesn’t know.”

“To be honest, I don’t know what I will do if I get the proposal. I am spending good time where I am now. I work as a coach in some teams, I do commentary too; I am roaming around the cricket world.”

The fact that Waqar has bad memories of the nation is a positive sign of how well the team has developed ever since Mashrafe took over the reins. This year might have been bad, but with the right coach and mentality, the team could once again replicate their 2015 success.
