New Zealand's Ferguson out of Champions Trophy with foot injury
18 Feb 25
New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka due to a left calf injury he sustained during Monday's T20I win in Dambulla.
Ferguson, who had only recently returned from a separate injury to his right hamstring, played a crucial role in turning around New Zealand’s fortunes with a hat-trick that helped them defend a total of 108, leveling the series after going 0-1 down.

However, he left the field after feeling discomfort during his second over, and initial medical evaluations confirmed he would be unfit for the upcoming 50-over series.

Ferguson will fly back to New Zealand today for scans to assess the injury’s severity and to plan his rehabilitation.
Adam Milne has been named as his replacement and will join the squad in Dambulla ahead of the three-match ODI series, which starts tomorrow.
