Bangladesh clinched the maiden Test win against New Zealand, defeating them by 150 runs in the first Test match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.


Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam bagged six wickets, and completed a 10-wicket haul to ridicule the visitors as they crushed on 181 runs in the chase of 322 runs.


Taijul claimer a four-for on day 4 to rattle down the batting order of New Zealand as they were reduced to 117-7 at stumps. 


Resuming their innings, Daryll Mitchell tried to rebuild with Ish Sodhi untill Nayeem Hasan gave the elusive breakthrough that inched the Tigers close to the victory.

Mitchell, who resumed the day's play on 44, reached his fifth Test half-century off 99 balls. He departed on 58 off 120.

Taijul wrapped up the show by taking two quick wickets of captain Tim Southee (34) and last-man Sodhi (22) to secure a commanding win over the Blackcaps.


Southee, who made 34 off 24 balls, tried to pull a short delivery from Taijul but could only hit it as far as to Zakir Hasan.


Earlier, Bangladesh batted first and piled up 310 in the first innings and Najmul Hossain Shanto's 105, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz's half-centuries helped Bangladesh put 338 in their second innings.


Bangladesh have kicked off the third cycle of the ICC Test Championship with a win.



It was also their second win against New Zealand, previous one was against the same opponents in Mount Maunganui during the second cycle in 2021.

Bangladesh 310 and 338 (Shanto 105, Mushfiqur 67, Patel 4-149) beat New Zealand 317 and 181 (Mitchell 58, Southee 34, Taijul 6-75) by 150 runs.
