Mahmudullah Riyad: The last of Bangladesh’s ‘Big Five’ calls it a day

New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra was excited to return to the Test squad and said he was anticipating to test his willow in the upcoming Test series.
This isn't Rachin's first time playing on Bangladeshi soil as he previously played a five-match T20I series in 2022 and is familiar with the pitch and conditions.
“Test cricket is a pinnacle of cricket and any opportunity you get to play for New Zealand, especially in a Test match, is pretty special, even sort of being involved in the squad. So I really love my first experience of Test cricket a couple of years ago and I guess really excited to see how, I guess my game's evolved and to join the group again,” said Rachin.

The New Zealand team last toured Bangladesh for three ODIs in September, which was both team's last bilateral engagement before the World Cup in India.

All three matches of that series were played in Miprur, but the Tigers ended up on the wrong side of a 2-0 series defeat with one game producing no result.
“Yeah, those wickets back in 2021 were very interesting. I guess it was quite difficult to bat on, but I think it was good fun to bowl on. I think those sort of spinners a bit of a quicker pace rather than what we'd probably be accustomed bowling back home. There's probably a little bit more help for the spinners, so I think if you're putting in an area and dialing up that pace a little bit more hopefully you'll have a bit of success," he said.
Rachin said they are banking on the spinners having the slow and low pitches in mind.
"Yeah, I think obviously we've got a seriously strong spin group, jazzy (Izaz) and Santner and Ish and Glenn Philips, so I guess trying to learn my best off sort of those boys and sort of Sodhi and Jazzy, who've had so much sort of experience over here and trying to understand what they do well, but still doing it my way. I think we're all sort of different bowlers in our right, so it's nice to have a little balance in the spin attack," he added.
