Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has appointed former captain Gautam Gambhir as the team mentor for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Venky Mysore, CEO of KKR, announced on Wednesday that Gambhir will return to KKR as “Mentor” and join hands with head coach Chandrakant Pandit.
Speaking on his return, Gambhir said – “I am not an emotional person and not many things move me. But this is different. This is back to where it all started. Today, there is a lump in my throat and fire in my heart as I think about slipping into that purple and gold jersey once again. I am not only coming back to KKR but I am coming back to the city of joy. I am back. I am hungry. I am number 23. Ami KKR”

Gambhir helped the team claim the IPL title twice, made it to the playoffs five times, and even reached the finals of the Champions League T20 in 2014.
Regarding his return, Gambhir expressed, "I'm not usually swayed by emotions, but this feels different. It's a return to where it all began. There's a lump in my throat and a fiery passion as I contemplate donning that iconic purple and gold jersey again. I'm not just rejoining KKR; I'm returning to the city of joy. I'm back. I'm hungry. I am number 23. Ami KKR."
Gautam worked with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for seasons and helped them to reach play-offs.
