Mahmudullah Riyad: The last of Bangladesh’s ‘Big Five’ calls it a day

Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud Sujon believes it will be a good chance for Najmul Hossain Shanto to lead the Bangladesh team in their last World Cup game against Australia in absence of captain Shakib Al Hasan.
Shanto, who led the Tigers against England earlier in the ongoing World Cup, will have the opportunity to make his mark as the possible future Bangladesh captain.
Injured Shakib was ruled out of the rest of the World Cup on Tuesday due to a broken finger, which he suffered while batting against Sri Lanka.

Later Tuesday, Anamul Haque Bijoy, who has played 45 ODIs, was named as Shakib's replacement in the Bangladesh squad.

Vice-captain Shanto found his touch at the last moment of the tournament as he missed out on a ton to put a halt to his run of six successive games where he was dismissed for single digit scores-- 0,7,8,0,9, and 4 respectively.
Sujon sees this as a good sign as he said that if Shanto can play his part well, Bangladesh can end their woeful tournament on a good note.
“It (leading in Shakib's absence) is an opportunity for Shanto. He had runs in the two matches, winning both the matches, which is a positive aspect. He was unbeaten against Afghanistan, scored 90 runs in last match too. He should also understand that if he plays well it’s good for us. The run in the last match will surely give him confidence. It will be good for us if we finish the last match well.” Sujon said the media.
Sujon also said Bangladesh will miss Shakib “Of course, we will miss Shakib. Shakib is an important player for us, our captain. Was returning to form, played a good innings in the last match. Batting with four fingers, he also had a determination to win the match. Of course, I will miss Shakib but injuries are uncertain. We have to play without Shakib. We will try our best In Sha Allah.”
