Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi said they should have won against Bangladesh after their famous eight-wicket win over Pakistan in Chennai on Monday.

The Afghans pulled off a shock victory over defending champions England but have also slumped to three defeats before today.

Bangladesh have so far won only one game in the ongoing World Cup and that’s against Afghanistan, who are stunning the world right now.

"Big moment for the whole of Afghanistan. We have played eight games against Pakistan, and won in a big event. It's a lovely moment today. We beat England as well, and now Pakistan. The team is confident now. [Earlier] in the last moments, we used to lose the game [to Pakistan]. We thought it was the same wicket like against New Zealand, but it was totally changed. Noor bowled brilliantly, in the good areas. A lot of close games, and this is a fantastic feeling," Nabi said to the broadcasters.

"We shouldn't have lost against Bangladesh. But now half the tournament is gone. We gave a lap of honour at the ground, and hopefully in Pune also they will support us."

Before today’s match Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott was looking forward to renewing a "passionate" rivalry with Pakistan which has often reflected the stormy political relationship between the two neighbours.

There have been intense cricket clashes between these two nations in the recent past.

At the 2019 World Cup match in Leeds, which Pakistan won by three wickets, riots between the two sets of fans erupted outside the stadium.
