Bangladesh captain Shakib al Hasan could miss the important World Cup fixture against India in Pune due to his thigh injury, which he picked up against New Zealand match in Chennai on Friday.

Shakib felt some discomfort near his left quadriceps while batting during that match and the all-rounder was taken for an MRI after the match.

Tiger team director Khaled Mahmud Sujon came to the press on Monday and said Shakib wants to play against India but if he doesn’t recover 100 percent BCB won’t take risk to play him on Thursday.

“Since tears can cause pain. There will be tears because the pain is in muscles. It remains to be seen how much Shakib has recovered. It (in this type of injury) hurts even when walking. Mash’Allah Shakib has nothing like that. For which we are hopeful. There is a difference between walking slowly and running. Since he got the pain while taking runs in the last match. We’ll see it tomorrow. Since Shakib batted even after getting injured, he bowled a quota of 10 overs. Shakib wants to play if he feels comfortable. We don't want that, it depends on his 100% fitness,” said Sujon.

“With six matches left in the tournament, we don't want to miss the whole tournament by playing one match. It depends on the doctor-physios. It's not about the coach's opinion. We don't want Shakib's career to be affected or jeopardized in the long run by playing it. We want Shakib to play if he wants and the physios want. If we have to play this match without him then we will play.” he added.

Bangladesh won the first match against Afghanistan by six wickets but lost their next two games against defending champions England and New Zealand by 137 runs and eight wickets respectively.
