Bangladesh are gearing up to play their first World Cup match against Afghanistan on October 7 as the Tigers have done their first training before the main event in Dharamsala.
Before starting the World Cup, Bangladesh have played two warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and England. Batters and bowlers have sharpen up themselves well in both the matches without captain Shakib al Hasan, who were resting in both practice games.
However, Shakib, who joined the team from Ahmedabad in the morning attended today’s practice.

Team director Khaled Mahmud said that the goal of the Bangladesh team is to play well and enter the semi-finals. He made this clear before the start of the World Cup that he believes that Bangladesh can challenge any team with veterans like Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim.

“I think we have good opportunities. We want to do well to go to the semi-finals, the knockouts. I know how tough it is to do. But I think we can afford it. There are enough good cricketers in the team. We have that confidence,”
“There is a quality bowling attack. We also have good batters. Experienced players like Mushi, Shakib will bat in the middle. So I think it is a team to challenge. We have a good record against each team before this too. But the World Cup is a different stage. We are ready In Shaa Allah.” Mahmud added.
During the afternoon practice, team operations manager Rabeed Imam came and told the media about a decision taken by the team, “The team has decided that no one from the team will talk to the media except the day before the match.”
Mahmud explained the reason in the afternoon as he said this decision was made out of fear of being a terrible ‘Headline’ in the media.
“We want the boys to focus on cricket. Sometimes a news item that summarizes words from one of the interviews, which the boy may not have said that way. Sometimes there are such cutting news, terrible headlines,” Khaled Mahmud said.
“Then the boys are embarrassed by it. As our focus is on the World Cup, we have decided to have only one person speak on the eve of the match.”
