Mahmudullah Riyad: The last of Bangladesh’s ‘Big Five’ calls it a day
12 Mar 25
Ish Sodhi of New Zealand praised Bangladesh skipper Litton Das for summoning him back after Tigers pacer Hasan Mahmud Mankaded him in the first innings of the second ODI of the three-match series between the two teams on Saturday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Sodhi was instrumental with both bat and ball as New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by 86 runs.
"Really good day. Coming on the winning side... historically, we haven't done too well. Nice of Litton for calling me back. We thought it would start turning later in the day. Even Ravindra and McConchie got it to spin later. Not every day is like that. This is really a tough place to come and win," Sodhi said.

The victory was the Blackcaps' first away in Bangladesh against the Tigers since 2008, when they had lost all seven encounters in the Tiger's den.

20 hrs agoIn the 46th over of the game, Ish Sohdi on 17, stepped out of the crease and Hasan who was just about to release the delivery, removed the bail. He appealed for dismissal, prompting the umpire Marais Erusmus to check the dismissal. And Sodhi was out of his crease, so he was given out.
He walked down with a smile on his face but after chatting with the umpire captain Liton Das and bowler Hasan called him back, showing a generosity. Ecstatic Sodhi hugged Hasan to show his gratitude.
“I'm not really that good batter. But I want to thank them. Maybe we could do it under such circumstances. Litton called me over, I came over and shook hands, hugged. Everyone plays to win the match,” the player of the match said.
“It's a part of the game now, nothing wrong. It's happening all over the world. They could have taken me back if they wanted. Showed sportsmanship. Everyone plays for the team to win” he added.
He later went on to score 35 to help his side propel past 250 runs mark as New Zealand were bowled out for 254.
