Mahmudullah Riyad: The last of Bangladesh’s ‘Big Five’ calls it a day

Sri Lankan legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan believes Bangladesh can turn back from the ongoing Asia Cup woes and bounce back in the upcoming World Cup in India.
Bangladesh's chance to make it to the Asia Cup final looked very slim following their two consecutive defeats at the Super Four. In the first match, they conceded a seven-wicket defeat to host Pakistan before tasting a 21-run defeat to co-host Sri Lanka.
Their hopes of making it to the final of the tournament now lie entirely on other results going their way coupled with favorable net run rates.

Muralitharan, who has the record 800 wickets in Test, saw the Tigers underperformed to their ability in this year’s sub-continent tournament.
“Bangladesh is a very good side but they underperformed to their ability. I think they have to pull their socks. These things happen sometimes,” Muralitharan said to Bangladeshi media in Sri Lanka.
The Tigers will play their last game against India at the Premadasa Stadium on September 15.
After the Asia Cup, Bangladesh will play a home ODI series against New Zealand in September before travelling to India.
Bangladesh will play two practice games, first against Sri Lanka and then against England at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on September 29 and October 2 respectively.
Muralitharan remarked that Bangladesh is a very talented side and with good preparation will help them in the extravaganza.
“I think Bangladesh have the talent. Bangladesh are not just a pushover side, they are a talented side. So definitely if you put the right thing and preparation before the World Cup, Bangladesh can definitely do something in the World Cup,” he added.
