Mehidy Hasan Miraz's display as an opener against Afghanistan in the ongoing Asia Cup has earned him praise from India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

The well-established all-rounder was experimented in many situations as an opener in International cricket. He was also able to prove himself in the most needed scenarios for the Tigers. He last played as an opener in the ODI format during the Asia Cup final against India in 2018.

Debutant Tanzid Hasan Tamim was rested after failing to impress in the first match against Sri Lanka and Miraz was shifted to open with Naim Sheikh. He yet again proved his worth as a batsman and struck a stunning century against Afghanistan in the must-win match.

According to Ashwin, the all-rounder has proven himself in numerous situations, “The emergence of Mehidy Hasan the batter is a big plus for Bangladesh. It really gives the Bangladeshi lineup a greater balance, they have started really well,”

“His batting prowess has been given value by the Bangladesh team management over the last 12 months and more so after this game,” he added on his X post.

Miraz’s experience as an occasional opener in domestic tournaments is believed to be giving out the rewards. The right-handed batter also played the role of make-shift opener in the previous edition of the Asia Cup Final against India, scored 32 in Dubai.
