Bangladesh captain Shakib al Hasan takes responsibility for his team’s batting collapse against Sri Lanka in their Asia Cup clash as he confessed he couldn’t fill the shoe after missing out key batters.
Fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana returned impressive figures of 4-32 to help Sri Lanka to a comprehensive five-wicket win over Bangladesh on Thursday.
Spinner Maheesh Theekshana struck early before Pathirana joined forces to dismiss Bangladesh for 164 in the opener of the Sri Lanka leg of the 50-over tournament.

Top-order batter Najmul Hossain Shanto made 89 to play a lone hand in Bangladesh's innings after they elected to bat first but lasted for only 42.4 overs.

Bangladsh are playing sans their important batters Litton Das and Tamim Iqbal as veteran player like Shakib was expected to deliver in their absence.
Pathirana got Shakib caught behind for five with wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis taking a diving catch to his left.
“It was not a 300 wicket, but we needed 220-230 runs to make a game. (Responsibility of his batting with no Tamim and Litton) Yes more responsibility, I couldn't do it, but as a batting effort we didn't do well. We have a big game coming up,” Shakib said in the presentation after the match.
“When they are 30 down for 3, we knew we needed a couple of more wickets, but unfortunately we didn't get that. Bowlers and spinners have been doing their bit for a long time now, just not enough runs on the board. (Positives for crunch games) There are lot of nerves when we started the game but as we kept on batting, in the 20th over, we felt lot more comfortable. This is the first time playing Asia Cup and in away conditions" he added.
Shakib and co. will face Afghanistan in thier second and most important match of this Asia Cup on Sunday in Lahore.
