England Test captain Ben Stokes is all set to make a comeback in the ODI format opting out of retirement, according to British daily The Telegraph.
If Stokes decide to play the 50-over format means he will not be able to have surgery on the left knee that has troubled him all year until a later date. Stokes would play in the World Cup as a specialist batter and won't bowl.
According to the report, Stokes was contacted by captain Jos Buttler to come out of retirement to help defence the World Cup title.

“Ben Stokes is prepared to make a sensational U-Turn and reverse his One-Day International retirement to help England’s World Cup defence in India this year, even if it means missing out on next season’s Indian Premier League,"

"The England Test captain now appears willing to play World Cup if he is asked by white-ball captain Jos Buttler,” the paper reported.
Ben Stokes played a crucial role in England winning their maiden ODI World Cup title in 2019, starring in the dramatic final against New Zealand at Lord's.
Stokes hit an unbeaten 84 and also held his nerve in the first-ever Super Over in the World Cup. Stokes shone in the final of the T20 World Cup 2022, helping England beat Pakistan and clinch their 2nd title in the shortest format of the game.
However, Stokes retired from ODI cricket in July 2022, citing workload concerns after he took over as the Test captain from Joe Root.
