After Tamim Iqbal stepped down from ODI captaincy, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has handed the leadership to ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan for upcoming major tournaments like Asia Cup and World Cup.
For the first time on Sunday, Shakib talked after being named the captain as he said he is ready to take the challenge for the upcoming World Cup and show the world how well Bangladesh have developed in the white-ball format.

“It’s nothing new to me [on captaincy]. It’s a great challenge for our team to showcase how good we became in the last four years. It will be a great opportunity for us to do well in this World Cup. I think we are a very good team. We are playing really well in the white ball format, so it’s time to show everyone how good we are,” said Shakib during a Lanka Premier League (LPL) match between his team Galle Titans and Jaffna Kings.

The prolific all-rounder has experience leading Bangladesh in major 50-over events, having led them in the 2010 Asia Cup and the 2011 Men's Cricket World Cup.
His most recent leadership in the ODI format was during a tri-series match against Ireland in 2017, where he stood in for their regular captain, Mashrafe Mortaza.
Bangladesh will begin their World Cup campaign on 7 October against Afghanistan in Dharamsala.
The final of the marquee event is scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on 19 November.
