The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said the exclusion of veteran Mahmudullah Riyad was made after the decision with team management and newly appointed captain Shakib al Hasan and coach Chandika Hathurusingha.
The experienced campaigner Mahmudullah was not included in the 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. As per the chief selector, fitness was the main concern and the recent performance of Mahmudullah was under scale.
"We had a long discussion regarding Mahmudullah initially. After a long discussion, the team management gave us a plan entailing how they want to approach each teams [in the Asia Cup]. Riyad has been left out after considering all these scenarios," Nannu said.

"We thought the planning that the team management gave was obviously good as they have a plan with the head coach regarding how to go about things with the team. We had a proper discussion about everything. We also discussed it with the skipper [Shakib Al Hasan]," Nannu added.

Nannu revealed the team management wanted an additional spinner and pacer for the much-anticipated number 7-8 position.
“Team management had given us a plan. They wanted to have an additional spinner, additional pacer and like who to play at number seven-eight. We had long discussion on this. So, the squad for the Asia Cup has been formed based on those discussions,” he said.
Mahmudullah last played in the ODI series against England at home last March and was dropped in the Ireland and Afghanistan series.
