The Sheikh Kamal National Sports Award is given to athletes on Saturday, who have performed well on the field for Bangladesh. Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed, Saff-winning footballer Sabina Khatun and SA Games gold-winning weightlifter Ziarul Islam have received the award as the best athletes.

Asia Cup will be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka later this month, followed by 50-over World Cup in October. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wished all the best for the Bangladesh team before the two major tournaments as she advised Taskin to play well.

Taskin is proud to receive such an award from the Prime Minister at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium. The right-arm pacer said that it feels good to get the national award for the first time.

Taskin had a little chat with the Prime Minister while receiving the award. The PM wished the Bangladesh team good luck and also advised Taskin to play well in Asia Cup and World Cup.

“Actually, she was asking what the upcoming events are. Honorable Prime Minister herself was saying that Asia Cup and World Cup are ahead. Good wishes for everyone, play well.” Taskin added.

A few days ago, Taskin returned home after playing inaugural Zim-Afro T10. The right-handed pacer has been on fire with the ball for his team Bulawayo Braves, with 11 wickets in 7 matches.

Taskin feels that playing in Zimbabwe will give him extra confidence ahead of the tournament, “Actually, if you can perform well, it gives you a confidence boost and hopefully that will help as well. T10 was a tough format. In shaa Allah it will help me in the next games,”
