Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Ismail Haider Mallick remarked the board won’t rush in appointing the new captain of the ODI format after Tamim Iqbal’s unexpected resignment.

Tamim stepped down from the captaincy on Thursday citing an injury problem after holding a meeting with senior officials. He returned to the country on 31 July after receiving treatment in London.

Following Tamim’s exit, BCB’s biggest headache is to assign the new captain with Shakib al Hasan and Litton Das on the line. However, Mallick said they will be careful and take time on appointing a new captain.

“No! (not in rush to appoint captain) There is no hurry. Tamim won’t do captaincy, it was announced by the honorable board president, however, it was a huge surprise for us. But they are working on it very closely with the team management,” said Mallick.

“Cricket operations are there, the honorable board president himself is looking after it. Nothing to panic about it. However, his resignment was a shock for us,” he added.

Tamim was given 1.5 months of mental break to recover from the back injury which ruled him out of the upcoming Asia Cup.
